The Save the Persecuted Christians Coalition (STPC) is an effort to do something unique for those suffering grievously simply because they follow Jesus Christ. It is designed to complement and enhance the impact of the Coalition’s many member organizations who laudably seek to relieve such privation through ministries that, among other things, feed, clothe, provide shelter and secure refuge for many of the estimated 365 million Christians being heavily persecuted around the world.
STPC’s distinctive mission is to hold the persecutors accountable in ways that actually disincentivize them from engaging in such crimes against humanity as the torture, rape, enslavement and mass murder of Christian believers. By imposing actual costs on such criminals, the Coalition aims to alter the perception in too many quarters that there is no downside to engaging in such atrocities.
To encourage such penalties, Save the Persecuted Christians Coalition complements the work it does wherever possible with those in the U.S. and foreign governments with its “outside game.” That can include employing: targeted awareness-raising campaigns; educational events; media appearances; and other community outreach initiatives.
The object is to expose the hard-facts and causes of anti-Christian violence now occurring in a record number of countries worldwide. By so doing, the STPC Coalition seeks to alleviate the suffering and save lives by fostering relationships and supporting public servants, government agencies, individuals and organizations who report on instances of persecution and assist those harmed for their faith in Jesus.
Working with Coalition members, STPC also helps grassroots organizations play an important social and political role. They serve as a burr under the saddle of political elites. The combined voice of the grassroots empowers individuals to engage with government and private sector stakeholders. For their part, government leaders are often moved to action when ordinary “rank and file” people mobilize themselves into a formidable force.
With the advent of a new Trump administration committed to stopping persecution of the world’s Christians, the stage is set for significant political, economic and other penalties to be imposed on state and non-state persecutors of Christians. The Save the Persecuted Christians Coalition looks forward to supporting such efforts and maximizing their impact.
The Institute for the American Future recognizes the unique value of the STPC’s emphasis on deterring persecution of Christians and will support its work wherever possible.
